How to submit a complaint against railways or train services?

Any complaint you submit is auto-assigned to the concerned railway official for redressal. You’ll be given timely updates about your issue over your mobile phone through SMS or via email. After the complaint has been registered, you will be given a unique ID number which can be used for tracking the status of your complaint.


I lost/ misplaced my train tickets!

Unfortunately, Indian Railways does not offer a refund against lost or misplaced tickets. You should report about the same to railways in order to avoid misuse of tickets. Railway authorities may issue a duplicate ticket upon their discretion.


My luggage got stolen while train was en route!

Immediately approach the Train Conductor (TC), or any attendant or guard in the vicinity. An FIR form will be handed to you which you shall fill out so the complaint can be forwarded to the police station. This procedure can take place en route. Your train travel insurance might cover this event.


My luggage got lost or damaged!

If you had declared the value of your luggage and had paid percentage charges, then you’ll be awarded the amount which is not more than the declared value. If you haven’t done so, then the railways will be liable to award you Rs. 100 per kg as damages for your loss. The luggage booking office should guide you with the procedure of compensation.


How to claim train travel insurance?

As per IRCTC, the insurance company will provide for claims, hence a request for insurance claim has to be submitted to the insurance company. The claim will be processed within 15 days after completion of all the formalities. In case your train travel insurance claim has not been processed or if you have any other complaint from your insurer, then you have the right to contact the insurer and raise a complaint through appropriate redressal steps as specified.
